How Exercise Helps Your Brain

Exercise benefits the brain by reducing insulin resistance (linked to cognitive decline), stimulating the development of new blood vessels in the brain to improve circulation, and reducing inflammation. Depression is linked to low levels of neurotransmitters, and because exercise stimulates production of these vital brain chemicals, it can help alleviate low mood and depressive disorders.

Although exercising does not guarantee you will not develop a memory related illness such as Alzheimer’s, research shows that movement has major positive effects on your brain. If you value your ability to think clearly and recall memories, particularly as you get older, exercise is a “no brainer”.
